The Jessica Simpson Diet
Review and Recommendations

The Jessica Simpson Diet is more of a “common sense plan” than an actual diet plan!

To prepare for her part as Daisy Duke in the 2005 The Dukes of Hazzard movie remake, Jessica Simpson wanted her body to look even better than it already did. So, she hired celebrity personal trainer Mike Alexander. Alexander lived in the same house with Jessica for 3 months leading up to filming the movie so that he could tell her what to order and oversee her workout regimen.

Her program consisted of both diet and exercise, with an emphasis on exercise.

The Jessica Simpson Diet Foods
Regarding the diet part of the program, Alexander encouraged Simpson to choose a variety of lean grilled meats like chicken, seafood, and steak, as well as vegetables and salads. The main foods he eliminated from her diet included sugary drinks and desserts, high-carb foods like bread, and fried foods. Simpson had tried the Atkins Diet before, saying “Atkins really messed me up mentally. I was so starved for carbs, I binged on them.” Alexander’s plan was to lower Simpson’s carbohydrate intake within reason while focusing on healthy proteins and vegetables. Some say the plan Alexander had Simpson following resembled the popular Zone Diet.

The Jessica Simpson Diet Exercise Plan
Simpson’s exercise routine included daily workouts of up to 2 hours consistently 5 days per week. The workouts normally consisted of 45-60 minutes of resistance training and 20-30 minutes of cardio work. The resistance training involved a variety of low-weight, high-repetition exercises with an emphasis on squats and lunges as Simpson worked to shape her butt for the role of Daisy Duke!

Conclusion
Again, there is very little to this “diet plan” other than common sense. Jessica Simpson’s eating plan during this time was simply watching the amount of carbs she ate and making healthy choices of lean proteins and vegetables while mostly eliminating sugars and desserts. Having a personal trainer with her at all times for 3 months likely made this easier to do than it would be for the rest of us trying to do it on our own. That said, though, her results were quite good. So, a little self discipline and will power to make healthy eating and exercise choices will certainly work.

Update
In preparation for her role in the 2008 movie Major Movie Star as Private Megan Valentine, Jessica Simpson followed the recently popular 5-factor diet plan. She reportedly lost 20lbs in one month on this plan in preparation for the movie.
