By following these USDA recommendations, general fitness nutrition guidelines, and limiting your caloric intake, you can eat healthier, lose weight, and improve your overall health for the long-term
Applying the USDA nutrition recommendations in your diet can seem complicated but doesn’t need to be.
By following some straight-forward healthy eating guidelines, you can easily incorporate many of these recommendations and make significant improvements in your daily eating habits. In fact, one of the most important, and overlooked, things you can do every day is eat a healthy breakfast!
Understanding the caloric content of the various types of energy sources – proteins, carbohydrates, fats, and alcohol – will help you better understand how the food choices you make affect your health. People often feel that counting calories is the best way to lower their caloric intake for weight loss. This is true to some extent. However, it is much more meaningful when you understand what type of foods these calories are coming from and your daily calorie intake for weight loss so you can ensure the calories you consume are healthy calories.
One great way to help you identify and keep track of what you are eating on a daily basis, is to use a food diary. Often times, we simply do not realize how much we eat or what types of foods we eat unless we consciously keep track of it. You can use this estimation to determine how many calories you need per day to lose weight or to maintain your weight.

This is a very effective way to lose weight; you just need to be sure that when you are reducing your calories that you do so using a healthy balance of nutrients.
